This place is just ok. I understand the people who run Mis Suenos are the same people who worked at Monreal's for years (the building which now houses the west-side La Fuente). I recently stopped in here with my husband and my in-laws. We were immediately seated, and service was prompt. Chips and salsa were brought to our table right as we sat down. The salsa was decent, it didn't have too much of a kick, but it tasted very fresh (not canned), which is a plus in my book. Upon entering we had to walk through a waft of smoke - someone must have put a burning cigarette inside the butt-hut, and it was starting to melt. Unfortunately for us, they placed the butt-hut (literally) right outside the door. It wasn't a very appetizing smell, and my appetite diminished a lot after that little incident. They had the door propped open. It wasn't exactly a hot day outside (it was late May), so we weren't really sure why they were keeping it open when it was stinking up the place. Needless to say, we didn't start our evening out with very high hopes. Our meals were the standard Mex-American fare. I had the enchiladas with green sauce, and they were good. Not great, but I wasn't expecting much from the get-go. The green sauce was rather bland to my dismay. I had two raspberry margaritas, and I couldn't taste any alcohol in them. Our total bill came to about $84.00, which I thought was really high. We each had two drinks and a dinner. Is that really $84.00 worth? If we are in the area and feel like there are no other places to eat we will stop in again.... otherwise I'm guessing my husband and I will continue to eat at places where we can stretch our dollar a little more (for the exact same food). I'm willing to pay more for GOOD food - but when it's the same kind of Mexican you can get all over town (except more expensive), we'll probably just consider going elsewhere.

American cheese I get that this place is not your authentic Mexican cuisine. Situated near 76th and Greenfield, it's one of few that are still in business on this block. Our meal started with the standard chips and salsa and we also got queso. This is not crack queso like bel aire, just melted cheese in a bowl. I ordered a two cheese quesadilla with peppers. It came with white cheese and I shit you not, slices of par-melted American with jalapeños out of a can for ten bucks. Rather disappointing. I'd far prefer 2.50 tostadas a few miles a way.

My Aunts and Uncles love this place - they frequent it weekly as their go-to Mexican restaurant. Chips and salsa just for sitting at the table, but I'd order the guac if I were you. I'm all about their margaritas - they are spot on. The biggest surprise to me is that they don't grasp the concert of carnitas/pork. To get that in my chimichanga seemed to be a science. I've also tried their burritos, if you venture away from pork - they can do a decent job. Too bad for me, I love pork with my Mexican food.

This place is within walking distance from my home. I have brought relatives here when they are in the area and they really enjoyed it. The meals can be hit or miss, I have had a couple I didn't care for. A pitcher of regular margaritas on the rocks will really hit the spot when shared. I do like their chili relleno and some of their specialty dishes are good. If something is not right I suggest sending it back. I do feel this place is a pretty good value for your money and it is nice on the inside. I always rather come here than the hopping joint over on bluemound. The drinks are stronger and the food is comparable but you do not have to have a wait for seating. Unless I want to sit outside I go here.

Wouldn't come back. The chips and salsa were cold and watery respectively. I even found ice cubes in my salsa... why would a place need that? My entree of shrimp fajitas was half decent at best. The side of rice and beans were lukewarm with zero flavor. It tasted like mush out of a can. The fajitas themselves- shrimp were great, but there were just a few. Corn tortillas were cold. Veggies dominated the plate, hot, but no flavor, just swimming in oil. Pico de Gallo was good, guacamole had zero flavor and looked brown. Girlfriend had a blended margarita that looked watery and was made with next to no tequila. Can't speak as to her meal, but it didn't look great either. At least the place looks clean on the inside and nice on the outside. Overpriced for what you get, and won't be back. Plenty of other great places in West Allis.

This is a standard Mexican tortilla based menu that offers little in the way of imagination, quality, or even quantity. Appetizer - Combo plate. 4 tortilla chips with Velveeta type cheese over cooked in the microwave and a single jalapeno slice on each one. 3 tortilla chips with melted white cheese topped with what can only be described as cafeteria ground beef mixture. 1 flour tortilla deep fried (now cold) and cut into pieces next to unseasoned guacamole, All for the bargain price of $9 Entree 1 - Tacos Al pastor with rice and beans. The usual rice and beans landscaped next to three tacos. The pastor filling was dry, over salted, and flavorless (other than the salt). Not horrible but really unappealing. $9 Entree 2 - Steak and Shrimp Fajitas. The greasiest food I have had in a long time. The meat just OK, not seasoned other than salt. I would guess there was about 1 oz of meat in the whole plate. Shrimp were probably the best part, but as there were only three or four of them, not much to be happy about. Teh veg consisted of a ton of green pepper, a few strips of onion, and one or two tomato pieces. All of it was swimming in oil. A side plate with about one Tablespoon each of shredded white cheese, guacamole, pico, and sour cream. The flour tortillas were stiff and hard on the ends, as if they had been reheated multiple times in in the wave. I opted to not eat them after the first one. $17.95!!! Not even close to being worth that. Alcohol - Traditional lime margarita served on the rocks. Tasty standard fair. $8 for 12 oz I will not go here again and I cannot recommend it to anyone else. Go to Anitgua instead. There was nothing fresh or made with love about this meal.

Our 1st time here @ Mis Suenos. Honestly, I yelped it. Despite the negative reviews, we decided to try it out. We entered fr the bk, but we were immediately greeted & seated. The place was pretty busy. Very festive decor seeing it is Cinco de Mayo. We got our water right away & because it was pretty busy due to it being lunch time, it took a good 10 min for our waiter to come & get our drink orders & complementary chips w/ salsa. They have a pretty typical American-Mexican restaurant menu. They have a lunch special that's pretty affordable. My husband & I got the 2 type orders that came with soup of the day. We had the beef soup & it was pretty good! Both my husband & I ordered the carne asada burritos(which is NOT on the menu, but we were accommodated), enchalada, & one chicken taco...the lunch special came with rice & beans...We were expecting a big burrito but the size was just like getting a soft taco from Taco Bell, but tastier. The rice is typical. Beans very good & NOT watered down. I would say the guacamole is awesome & freshly made! That's plus for us. Our waiter, Javier, was great! He was very kind & friendly. He often cked on us & asked if we needed anything else. I love it when the staff are very friendly. Overall, a typical American-Mexican reastairant. But, wish their burritos are much bigger.

Had lunch here recently and it was alright. Sat outside on their sidewalk patio, which was nice. Service was painfully slow. My order came out wrong. I had steak tacos and the meat was grisly and flavorless but the tacos as a whole were decent--still better than Taco Bell. My friends had margaritas and they were HUGE! Reasonable prices, but can't say I'll be back.

Went there for lunch. Service was good. The food was okay. The side rice was the best part, sadly. I didn't try any, but the drinks looked delicious.

My husband and I eat at this restaurant every month or so. I feel compelled to write this review because I believe the 1 and 2 stars are not deserved. The service has always been friendly, prompt, and acceptable for us. The guacamole is one of our favorites and all other guac gets compared to theirs. The food is actually great. And this is where I want to make the distinction. The food is great for "Mexican-American" food. That is what they serve. This verbage is even part of their logo. So we don't come here expecting authentic Latin / Mexican food. If that is what you are looking for try Antigua, Cafe Paz, Cempazuchi, or countless other establishments. You CAN dine at Mis Suenos and be guaranteed of great Mexican-American food !!!

And the crowd goes mild!!! A friend of mine that was a big fan of Monreal's El Matador was disappointed when it was closing. Later on down the road he gave me a jovial phone call about how he figured out that a lot of the employees now work at a place called Mis Suenos and the menu is pretty much the same. Evidently it's El Matador Part 2! On his recommendation I went. We parked and entered in back. I noticed there was some outdoor lawn furniture for possible outdoor seating? Come see the beautiful view of downtown West Allis parking lots! No thanks. Inside is a mixed bag. The normal dining room area seems drab. With some Mexican restaurants seeming vibrant and lively this hit's me as if it's catering to a different crowd. The bar seating faces the street which is something i used to appreciate when I frequented bars. I like windows and people watching and no one likes to feel like they are suffocating. As for the food the items we ordered were as I remembered them from El Matador. That is bland. It makes me wonder why. With all the variety of spices, peppers and other items we have access to it doesn't have to be this way. I'm not sure why but they seem to be stuck in some rut. Really the only way to fix this is by changing up the menu. I haven't eaten everything on it nor will I. A place like this is hard to justify coming back to. There are little joints popping up here and there doing things in the kitchen that far surpass this mediocrity. I want to see small business succeed. I always want to pull for the little guy over the chains. Yet I can't muster anything inside of me to give more then 2 stars. Yelp nails it with "Meh. I've experienced better". I have and I am sure you have too

We love this place - even better that we can walk there. Chips are really good ask for 3 kinds of salsa.

Walked in after a stop at Benno's in need of food to soak up, well, you know.... Anyways, walked in around ten o'clock. Place was dead (Saturday Night?!). We were seated no problem. After about ten minutes water was brought to our table. Surprisingly no one could decide what to order. Mainly because nothing on the menu appeared appetizing... to anyone. Whether it was the mentioned ingredients or the ridiculous prices ($11.00 for a burrito?!) , we were not impressed. Tried the salsa and chips. Watery and stale. Yuck. My wife's Caipirinha, the only drink ordered from our table, as she puts it "was gross". Trust me, she's tried a lot! Miserable service, unappealing menu and prices, circus grade chips, salsa, and mixed drinks led to our asking for the check, hurried exit, and quest for another local late night food joint. As stated earlier, this is not the place for authentic Mexican food.

I visited this restraunt one time and that was enough for me! We were a party of 4 and all of us were very disappointed with our food. First off the waitress screwed up our order 2X, the tacos looked like someone slopped some nasty runny no flavored meat on them, (the meat was all over the plate) and last but not least they make a chocolate box cake that resembled german chocolate and called it tres leche! I tried to find one thing that I liked and could not. No flavor food, 3 people in the dining room and it took 45 mins to get our food, The order was wrong twice, the chicken tacos are made with stewed tomatos and one of the members in our party had a tomato alergy, and the horchata had no flavor. Would NEVER EVER go back even if the food was offered free! PLEASE save your money and go down the block to Taco Bell, trust me its better than what you would get at this place!

Margaritas were average. Food was good. I had a desert with coconut in it, that was wonderful! Service was prompt. Salsa was so-so. Chips were good. Good location, with plenty of parking.

We really liked this place. Three of us went for a Friday Night Fish Fry. We chose the place because it's one of those rare Milwaukee restaurants where you can get a broiled Walleye dinner. Not only does Mis Suenas featuure it on Fridays, but you can get it for $10.95 any day of the week! Baked or panfried is common, but the healthier broiled is rare. The portion is very generous. We will be back to try some Tex-Mex (Fajitas looks inviting) and other things. The menu is extensive. The interior decor is very tastefully done, it's not loud, there's a full bar, and the street appeal of the place is very attractive. This is a find.

I'm gonna be a little different and give this place 4 stars. I've gone to mis suenos about 4 times. Service is pretty fair to say the least, but I've never received the wrong order. First time my girlfriend and I went, her margarita was super weak; couldn't even taste a drop of alcohol. When I went to the bar to get more added, the bartender was kind enough to add more after he had to confirm he put the designated amount in. (Which was not enough!!!) Food is your typical american/Mexican plate-definately nothing special. For my drink I've gotten the Bloody Mary, which again you might need to add a little more spice or Tabasco to liven it up - pretty bland drink. They have NO tap beer so you must buy a bottle of beer for your chaser-shitty. When they give you your bill, they hand write it like the 1970's so honestly, who the hell knows what your being charged for! I'm giving this place mainly a 4 star because it's in the neighborhood and convenient for a quick bite to eat.

Food was really good. Came in with 12 people. Everything came out hot and delicious. Waiter was a little unattentative, as he never came to see if we needed more drinks. I'd come back again.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is not the place. So this is my experience at this restaurant a proximally about a month ago. My boyfriend, daughter and I were seated quickly; service was welcoming, but very slow. The restaurant is nice, big bar, clean and very spacious. It was not too busy yet our waitress took a long time to get our drinks, appetizers and meals. It got to the point where I wanted to walk out because the wait was ridiculous. They have the typical chips and salsa at the table, the salsa was too watery for my taste. We ordered nachos as an appetizer which was nacho chips, runny ground beef with melted individually wrapped slices of cheese. Yup, it was that obvious! We then ordered soup which was pretty good considering we order French onion and chicken noodle, unfortunately Mexican soup is not available here. For lunch we order combination plates; burritos, tacos and enchiladas. Again that runny ground beef, which reminded me of Sloppy Joes, steak for the taco was hard with huge chunks, not visually intriguing. The best way I can describe the sauce on the enchiladas is La Preferida canned enchilada sauce. Very disappointing. I will never come back to this restaurant. I almost forgot to mention the horchata, no flavor. I believe the only good thing we ordered was the bottle of Modelo beer.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Mis Suenos! The salsa that came with our chips was on the mild side. Our waiter Eric, immediately took care of that and brought over two more choices that went from hot to satisfying hot. I had the Combination Plate and my husband had the Steak Tacos. The food was very favorable and good quality. The rice and beans were fresh and tasty. They did not have the taste of reheated food that had been around all day. The food was not smothered with loads of Medium Cheddar cheese. Mexican farmers cheese was generously sprinkled over my Tostada and enchilada. I have become so tired of the Mexican restaurants that serve you lots of Margaritas then follow it up with "glop". Glop is the best way I can describe the entrees that other popular Mexican restaurants in the area serve up. Mis Suenos is a welcome change. I will definitely return.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
